I just tried to get the Witcher Adventure Game Running with Wine/PlayonLinux, but haven't been able to make it run yet, the installer crashes after starting it. Has anyone around here already figured out how to make this happen?

Also, general thread about playing Witcher Adventure game on Linux. If I got this right, with the release of GoG Galaxy there will be Linux support for at least some distrbutions, so maybe it won't be a too long time Linux users need to use workarounds to play this (and other) Witcher game.
The Galaxy Client setup (setup_galaxy.exe) requires Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) scripting.
Without the client you cannot play online. And since the Beta is online-only, you cannot play at all.
(you can use the /nogui switch to install the beta and click the error messages away to install without the client )

The setup also freezes on Windows (with error messages in the background) if the WinMgmt service is broken/missing/disabled.

So the question is: is WMI is really required for the setup... or is it only used for gathering and/or reporting system information.

edit: one might try to extract the setup(s) with innoextract and fiddle around with the vcrun2012 (no winetricks verb available yet IIRC)...

I created a winetricks verb for testing, and besides some issues, I was able to play online.
Since the setup is manually extracted you have to install innoextract.

The most important problem is an almost always empty login page (all other pages work well). The only existing workaround is importing a registry value from a Windows machine after login. For details read the comments at the end of the verb.

Was able to get your winetricks to run and get the launcher to work. Sadly though even with leaving it up and then starting the game I get an authentication error still when attempting to play online.
I'm using Debian testing with the current stable Wine 1.6.2-8 and nvidia-driver 340.24 (unstable, since testing is currently broken).
http://nicode.net/temp/twag_beta29.verb updated for the current setup (0.32.00 - still build 29).

Managed to play a bit with CrossOver.

I installed the game by invoking the installer with the /nogui option and clicked through all the errors. Good news is that the game is apparently using Unity and these have a good record of working with wine.

The trick to be able to play is to run the launcher and authenticate, then, separately, start the actual game executable. This will allow you to play online.

* dice look weird, will check whether using MS DX9 redist files makes this go away
* need to read up on how to actually play the game :)

How long does the setup took to complete? With the /nogui parameter it takes at least a minute here to finally start installing the files (most likely due to bug #17273).

And what Wine version is used? With 1.6.2 the login page is most of the time empty on my box. Seems to be a problem with an endless loop with (or somewhere in) the Windows crypto API (while trying to display the page from https://auth.gog.com/... or https://login.gog.com/...). A +crypt log is nealy 1 GiB in size after the dialog finally pops up.
CrossOver is based on wine 1.7.4. PlayOnLinux already has wine builds with the CSMT patch, which I recommend.

wine 1.6.2 may be "stable" but it's ancient.

I've run into the same problem. Have there been any rumors on a linux port for the game? I've looked around the web and haven't been able to find anything, but I would really be surprised if they aren't planning on it.
Would be nice if CDPR releases a native Linux version. Since they plan to release a Mac version, it shouldn't be so hard, should it?
Well, I already bought it because it looks like a lot of fun even if I'm unable to play it on Linux (perhaps, this was a mistake?).

Anyway, I would love to see a Linux port but I will try to get it running with WINE / PlayOnLinux / Crossover as soon as it is getting release (Thursday right?).

Can we skip the Galaxy Downloader when it's official released? I think this would help us with the Galaxy / Downloader problem.
