This glitch depends on how you play your character, but here's how I found out about it:

1. Have Create Undead spell.
2. Ask to have a pit fight.
3. Kill your opponent.
4. In the small gap of time before it transports you out of the pit, resurrect your opponent as a mindless zombie.
5. Finish the quests on the island.
6. Ask Teach to leave.
7. Drop your new undead companion like he's carrying the plague. (Pass out or stop the spell)
8. After a few seconds get teleported BACK to the edge of the pit on the Isle of Despair.
9. Go to the ship...
10. Where's Captain Teach?!
...
Welcome to your new home!

The teleportation out of the pit seems to be tied to your opponent's death... regardless how many times they die.
So if you resurrect them and they come out of the pit with you, every time they die you get transported back to the edge of the pit no matter where you are in Arcanum.
Also since Teach is moved to where you last saw him he's back in Ashbury and since he's still alive the helm of the ship on the Isle is still *technically* his and doesn't work for you.

There are many ways to get stuck on the Isle of Despair, but this one appears to be unknown. So enjoy.
