I looked into the support articles and nothing of this is mentioned. Most people seem to just have problems with installation. The game installed fine and it actually runs. It's just not enjoyable because the audio is skipping.

I'm bumping this. I just picked up the game having very fond memories of it. It plays just fine, but the audio skipping will not fly.

Re-bump - just bought DK1 today and the audio skipping is really annoying.

System is an AMD E-450 powered HP netbook running Windows 7.

What to do if it won't let you save the edited .cnf file?

I had the same issue. Right click "Notepad" and choose "Run as Administrator". Then you should be able to open and edit the file.
