trying to play DK1 and 2 tried all the usual tricks but when it runs opens in a small window in the middle of the screen. any others struggle with this

About DK, look for "Launch Graphic Mode Setup" a tool installed together with the game. You can adjust the game's resolution using it.
Alternatively, you can edit the file named "dosboxDK.conf" using notepad: change the line "fullresolution = original" with "fullresolution = desktop".
You could also set the game to run in fullscreen mode.

Another solution could be installing the KeeperFX mod: read here for info and instructions.

Speaking of DK2, look here for instructions to get higher resolutions.

In DK1 the default resolution is low. ALT + R to sharpen it up.
