It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Hopefully quite well! :) It's taken a while, but the team kept working on the game and now it appears that work has paid off. (I'm guessing the game now uses a 3D wrapper of some kind, probably from nGlide.)

Oh, and if anyone wrote a review and gave the game one star due to compatibility issues, please consider updating your review and re-rating, if indeed improvements have occurred. It's not a big deal, but it would be a nice touch to show appreciation for the GOG team's work.

nGlide is, as the name suggests, a glide wrapper. It wouldn't help DK2 much, since DK2 is directx based. :p

The new patch was custom written for GOG, rather than some ready made off the shelf thing. I guess you can describe it as a wrapper, if you like.

Oh okay, I don't really understand the technology. I'm assuming it's working well, though.
I have to say that this patch was a more than welcome surprise! Kudos to the team for creating it and making it available.

But I also have to say that this [see attachment] was a very unexpected surprise to say the least. Don't we all have version 1.7?

The patch should be compatible with few most recent GOG versions. Maybe you have some old version installed? Does this message appear right after you start the patch, or after you click the Update button?

You can try redownloading the installer, and reinstalling the game - the patch should work on that version.
I remember that there was a registry hack that could make you run DK2 with a resolution of 1600x1200, although when I had tried it, the UI was not displayed correctly. Can someone confirm that this works even with the new patch?

No, it wont. There is an alternative method to enable 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 resolutions, (A line you have to add to config.ini. Can't remember it off the top of my head, but can check later.) but yes, although with the patch those resolutions behave a bit better than normal, they still screw up the UI. In particular, the in game menu screens have no text. That includes the load and save game screens, which is the biggest pain, and are why those resolutions were left disabled.

I cannot tell anymore, I think it was immediate; when I ran the patch installer. I have just run the installer again, but this time it told me that the update was already installed. Does the update change the 1.7 version number on the game menu? How can one know that the update is in place and working?

If you have "patch already applied" message now, then it means you received the previous error message because something went wrong during patching.

Patch adds DKII-dx.exe and patch.dll to the game directory. If you have them - the game should already be updated.

I guess you got the error message, because the patcher failed to copy those files for some reason - you could try reinstalling the game and running the patch as admin.

I don't have them; I did install as administrator.
Is there any chance gog will upload a manual install ~like a zip file with the exe and library?

** Btw (and unrelated) I found out that the DK2 command-line arguments for enabling bump-maping on an old Matrox work just fine on my Nvidia 9800GTX, it really makes a noticeable improvement. Instructions for this are in the game's ReadMe.txt file.

Gizmojunk: snip
I asked the support to contact you about the patch issue.
Anyone have any ideas for command-line switches that can improve on the visuals for the patch? And one more thing: Is there any way to get FSAA with the patch? So far I've tried morphological AA on my Radeon 5870 and that seems to do a great deal to the fonts but not a lot to the jaggies... By the way compared to running it in software it still looks a great deal better.

Yes, open config.ini (Hit win+r to open the run dialog, and type %APPDATA%\GOG\DungeonKeeper2\config.ini ) and add the line Antialias=12 to the bottom, under the zbuffer line.

Thanks a lot. That worked really great. Do you know what different numbers in this line would do?

Yes, but you aren't going to get anything better than 12. The other sensible options are 0 (AA off, main menu fps fix off), 2 (AA on, fps fix off), 11 (AA off, fps fix on, the default) and 12 (AA on, fps fix on).
