I've never played a Dungeon Keeper game and want to try the game. Do i get Dungeon Keeper Gold Or Dungeon Keeper 2 ?

I would recommend the first game. In my opinion the original has a more coherent design - starting with the soundtrack and ending with the UI, it all adds to the underground atmosphere. Also, the choice of minions is more varied.

Be sure to get the community mod from http://keeper.lubiki.pl/html/dk_keeperfx_dwnld.php if you end up choosing the first game.

Another vote for 1. This isn't one of these series where the first is a prototype that really needs what gets changed later. The original DK is already the real deal and part two just managed not to mess it up. And besides the UI is outright easy for a game that age, no manual required.

I prefered 1 over 2 for a few reasons

1) The gritty graphics in 1 added quite a bit of admosphere to the game. 2 felt just a little too colourful for a game that takes place underground

2) Deeper Dungeons is a great expansion. You have a lot of creative freedom how you design your dungeon, as opposed to ..............

3) ...........the less than stellar level design in DK2. I felt constricted how I designed my rooms in DK2 because of all the undiggable tiles there. I honestly felt the designers were telling me how to carve out my dungeon

4) DK2 has a few bugs which can be annoying (can't summon dark knights in certain levels for example)

I'm sure there's more, but these are a few reasons that come readily to mind.
I found 2 pretty good but it didn't add as much as I hoped really while not having the nostalga.

Start with one. Two improved graphics and threw in some features that the developers wanted to put into one, but had to cut to get the game out. Two is a good game in itself, but one is the trendsetter.
I would be careful with deeper dungeons though, not that it isn't good, but if you are not sure of what you're doing, it'll punish you very hard.
Agreed to just start with 1 and if you like it and want more, play 2.
DK2 has My Pet Dungeon, which I spent weeks playing way back in the day.

DK1 has better maps ... some AI bugs could drive you insane .

I have played Dk2 more than Dk1 - though both games should be played by some one "new" to the series.
