Skreczi: Our Fallout 2 was patched to the newest official version (1.02d if I remember correctly) before we published it.

Did the GOG team do any additional development on any of the Fallout games for the GOG release or are they just patched to 1.02d? I understand that the patched games are very compatible with XP/Vista so I wouldn't expect that any additional compatibility work was done. However I'm still curious ;).

demonbox: None of these will let me play Fallout 2 on a widescreen monitor, will they? I imagine not, but the game doesn’t love the widescreen monitor (gives me two screens next to each other on my monitor, both kinda blurry).

The resolution patcher will let you play in widescreen. It won't try to stretch what you normally view on the screen, it will simply widen the viewing screen so you see more of the map.
I've been playing Fallout 1 in widescreen (1440*900). Don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for Fallout 2. Here is a screenshot at 1152*864.

Rysa: Here are some of tested and suggested mods for Fallout 2. If you have more that you'd like to share here is the exact place.
Note. It is better to test each mod with gog installer first before you add new one to this topic.

This is SO cool! I didn't know there were mods for the game. Will those links take me to an area on how to make my own mods? (Yeah.. I know... I'll look myself) :)
Regards,
Allan
OK... so I checked out the No Mutant's allowed website and they have a bevy of Fallout goodness (including information on how to make your own mods). Very very neat!

Much thanks.
Super noob question ,despite having been playing games for close to a quarter of a century—never installed a mod before. I downloaded the 1.6 resolution patch. Do I just extract all the files in the exe. and aim them into the Fall Out 2 folder, or is there more to it than that?
Thanks
++OOPS- I see the instructions now, nevermind- thanks++

What are the suggested mods for someone who will be playing through the game for the first time?
Many thanks to gog team for this post!

Personally mate, I'd just pick up the resolution patch. Makes things a bit prettier ^^. Apart from that, play it through vanilla first imo, then mod it for more gameplay =]

Regarding the Fallout 2 Restoration Project mod, does anyone know if the mod simply restores unused content that was stored in the game's data files, or is it the mod author's interpretation of content based on descriptions, etc.?

It's about ~90-95% content by Black Isle, IIRC.

The first post here lists two unofficial patches, and then the NMA page has even more. If I just want bug fixes and the like, which patch(es) should I get?
Falche doesn't work for me. I'm using the unofficial patch, are there any alternatives?

Rysa: 7. Fallout 2 Unnoficial v1.05 Patch
http://nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=download&file_id=85
8. Killap's Unofficial Fallout 2 Patch (US/UK - installer)
http://nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=download&file_id=704

Please advise: which one of the two should I get? The first one? The second one? Both? If so, in what order? ;)

Only Killap's unofficial patch.

Lexx: Only Killap's unofficial patch.

Thanks.
I did some research after I posted, and it seems the majority of NMA community recommends killap over v1.05 as well. Then again, the majority of NMA are over-zealous assholes, so it's good to get a second opinion anyway ;)

Lexx is from NMA. And so am I.
F2 patch 1.05 is pretty outdated. It was abandoned in late 2005 whereas killap's patch is from late 2007. Killap's is definitely the way to go.
1.05 shouldn't really be on this list in my humble opinion.
