Am I getting a worse experience buying Fallout 4 on Gog vs on Steam?
Do the Creation Club mods matter and are they for money? Because I know they dont work on GoG.
I've got one more day to make up my mind, so tell me, do I have to tinker to get mods working? Because I don't have a lot of time, and really just want to play the game.

Search for problems_with_my_gog_fallout_4_vs_steam_fallout_4 on google, cause I can't post links.
This guy says that GoG doesn't have the same version as Steam for example and that mods don't really work.

I just bought it on Gog to have just in case. I downloaded the offline installers. I usually use Galaxy. The CC isn't on the Gog version it says on the store page, The way I understand it. The FO4 Unofficial patch works with it so I guess the mods can be installed with a mod mgr or manually. I have not installed yet on Gog.

That guy is wrong. I have bunch of mods installed with GoG FO4. Nothing special to install mods, they work the same on the GoG version.

It's really no different, other than the lack of creation club, which I didn't want anyway.

I have F4 both on GOG and Steam, and they are the same, minus the creation content. Some items from CC were included in official patches, and they are present in GOG version. Mods work on both versions. And GOG doesn't force you to update :)

GOG does force you if you haven't downloaded the offline installers now or use galaxy.
Right at this moment, when i type this, then the offline installers are still on 1.10.163. But when tomorrow the update goes live, then in a couple of days, could also be a week, then also the installers here on gog will be updated and they will then be replaced with the new version. That has always been the case. And gog doesn't offer old files. So better download right now, otherwise also here on gog you will meet the same fate as on steam if you didn't took any precautions.

You can always revert to previous patch in Galaxy.

I can't say whether Creation Club mods work, I also avoided that when modding. I never used mods through the "steam"-ing pile of cow dung workshop, which may be a problem running on a not-Steam version.

And I don't have any problems - just got the GOG version and installed it. The GOG version of this game does load a little faster for me and I just tested over 220 mods that I was also using on the Steam version.

Is anyone having trouble with GOG version not running mods that rely on F4SE? There's an easy fix for F4SE:

Add the runtime commandline argument -forcesteamloader to f4se_loader.exe and this will fix all the issues related to being a "not-Steam version" - without the argument on the GOG version, F4SE won't load and this will disable mods that use it.

I use F4SE with the GOG version of the game and it works perfectly without the argument.

That's because I use a different version.
Possibly a dumb question on my part (been a busy few weeks and brain not work good) but if we installed the older version of F4 currently on gog, and then a few weeks down the line all the modmakers start updating their mods to be compatible with the 'next-gen' version.....are they likely to still be compatible with the older version too?

I'm struggling to remember what the precedent, if any, tends to be with other games. Not sure if it might even vary on a mod-by-mod basis.

Just thinking I'm not sure if it would be worth going the gog route if it is simply delaying the inevitable.

the mods you already have installed would continue to work as long as you do not update the mods or game, as well as any mod versions you download that are made for the older 1.10.163.0 version of Fallout 4 which is currently the version on GOG

but i would not imagine that mods updated for the next-gen update would work on older versions, i would say that it would be highly unlikely
I have been using many mods with the GoG version and they all work fine. I haven't applied the unofficial patch either.

I already have the 1.10.163.0 off-line installer files stored safely on a external disk, together with a Mods folder that contains all the mods that work perfectly on that version (including a mod manager). Even if the new version breaks a lot of mods, I won't care. I always have that backup that will work perfectly including all the mods I need.
Of course I will try out that new version if it becomes available in the form of a set off-line installer files.
And if too much mod stuff won't work? Well - No problem. I still have that backup.

The only good thing I can find with the new update is that I can play on my Steam Deck with no effort; however, my save files are more or less useless since I have no mods on my Deck and there is no easy way to transfer them. There are methods available but they were made before the newest patch so they are out of date; what's worse, the new patch breaks most mods meaning that even if I had my mods on the Deck I wouldn't be able to use them!
