at http://www.celestialheavens.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9704, there is new patch available for Might and Magic that allow key remap (and other fix)
As far as i can see this is a fanmade patch right? However looking at the changelog, it looks like it adds a lot of the modern conveniences we have have grown accustomed to (quicksave control remap ;-) ). I will certainly give it a whirl when i get home, i will report back if no one else beats me to it.

Please do :). Curious to know whether it works with GOG version...
I don't know anything about this particular fanmade fix, but I tried installing the famous unofficial Mok's patch yesterday and, predictably enough, it reintroduced the original CD check...

I was wondering if that patch would work. Guess not...

This appears to work. After installing it, I was able to load the program, start a new game and play.
Update: This patch causes sound problems for me.

I haven't done a thorough test yet, but first impressions are good. According to the changelog this patch implements some (or all?) of "muks" changes, the DRM is still disabled though.
@Mentalespy:
What kind of sound problems are you having? So far its all good at my end, perhaps its a driver issue?

Could be. It causes the sound effects to lag behind the gameplay, which is very annoying.

Strange, been playing for the last couple of hours and no problems what so ever. My card is an old Soundblaster Audigy and I am using the drivers supplied by windows 7 rc (hey, they work ;)
After installing the patch the in-game music disappeared for me.

The same happens to me. Any solution?
PS: Tried to change PlayMP3 from 0 to 1 in MM6.ini but did not work.

Now that you mention it, my music is mute too. I usually disable it anyway so I suspect that's why I didn't notice it. For me at least, the changes of the patch greatly outweighs the missing music. Especially quick save and time compression is invaluable.
On a side note, the key changer utility posted at the same site as the patch works beautifully. I remember a simpler time where arrow keys did it for me, but those days are long gone. :-)
Patch works great-!
For solve sounds problem open “MM6.ini” file and change “Play MP3=0” to “PlayMP3=1”.
Now make copy of “Sounds” folder and change folder name as “Music”

Try to make "Music" folder (copy "Sounds" folder and change name) it works for me.

Worked like a charm, thank you very much. Anyway you MUST keep a Sounds folder containing the file Audio.nsd
The new exe asks for CD but you can click cancel or continue and the game runs well.

Maybe there's something in the ini file that makes the game check for the CD (if that's so, it's probably how the GOG team disabled it). You could try looking.
I don't have the game, so all I can do is speculation.

Hello. Yes, I checked that already.
This is the whole MM6.ini (after patch 1.6):
[Settings]
AlwaysRun=1
FlipOnExit=0
LoudMusic=0
CapsLockToggleRun=0
QuickSavesCount=2
QuickSavesKey=122
NoDeathMovie=0
NoCD=1
FixWalkSound=1
FixCompatibility=1
InventoryKey=73
ToggleCharacterScreenKey=192
FreeTabInInventory=1
FixDualWeaponsRecovery=1
PlayMP3=1
MusicLoopsCount=1
ReputationNumber=1
DoubleSpeedKey=113
TurnSpeedNormal=100
TurnSpeedDouble=120
IncreaseRecoveryRateStrength=10
ProgressiveDaggerTrippleDamage=1
[Controls]

As you can see there is already a NoCD=1 value set, so nothing to change here.
PS: Dunno how, I've done nothing, but it seems to be fixed now. No longer asks for a CD when starting mm6.exe after 1.6 patch ¿? weird
