Here we go again.

I downloaded MM7, and I am having trouble even starting it. I got to character creation screen, needed to look up something, but I could not shrink the screen, and going to the desktop caused the screen to glitch. It sort of caused them to turn into two half screens, one of them a digital mess.

Another post mentioned a "Greyscale Patch", but after I downloaded it, I had no idea what to do with it.

I have to mention here, I am not in any way a computer whiz, I do not understand jargon or lingo, or any of that. If someone can just give a step by steo explanation of how this problem is fixed (as in, dumb it down as dumb as you can) I'd be grateful.

edit: I should mention, I do not have this problem with MM6, which I downloaded some time ago; cannot for the life of me remember how i did it then.

It's Grayface, and to be honest, the original Windows version without his patch would be so out of phase with current window versions that I wouldn't even try to make it work.
Last time I tried, I could barely get it to install, let alone play it - so I just replaced the entire folder with a version already patched with Grayface.

Try harder to install it, it's a must have.

Yes, MM6 unpatched works better than MM7/ MM8 unpatched, probably due to all the direct X and 3D cards stuff they added in.

Can you explain how to do that? Like I said, i am NOT a computer whiz here
Was it working until you minimized it? I've found that MM6-8 don't play well at all if they get minimized.
Again, like I said, it happens EVERY time I try to switch to the desktop.

Again, I've tried downloading the patch, it does NOTHING. But then, not sure how to use it,

The implication from your response is that "yes, it does run fine before I switch to desktop", which means one answer is to quit out of the game each time you want to go look something up. Tedious, I know, but that's what I recall doing at one point when the game didn't play well after losing focus.

I just used the basic GOG installs (from a number of years back; I don't know what might be different about the installs now).
I use a tablet to access references while playing. Don't have to minimize the game to access maps and guides.
