So might and magic X came out. And I was largely disappointed due to the resemblance to might and magic 1-5 not 6-9. I'm curious if there is any news of a might and magic that will be like 6-9?

And also I'm new to GOG but I'm curious why newer games don't have the awesome item list and dungeon creativity like MM6-9? I'm still astounded to this day that the might and magic games are so much fun even though they are so old. Like I don't even care to beat the story Ill just explore finding awesome stuff.

Many people would say that the much fancier graphics in today's games means there's less money / time / disk space to be spent on a variety of items and dungeon designs. It takes exponentially more work to make a single room that lives up to modern graphical standards today than it did in the days of MM6-9, even keeping in mind that those games hardly had cutting-edge graphics on release.

This is why I'm glad to see that a lot of indie games and even a few AAA games are going for more stylized graphics that can still look good while leaving room for imagination and effort in other parts of the game design.

Of course, I've never tried to make a game myself, so I'm making some assumptions here. But it seems that the modern focus on graphical fidelity has led to shorter games with fewer levels and less variety, as these things become much more expensive to make.

Quite true. In my opinion, MM6's graphics were just right (MM7 looked a bit blurry for some reason). There were people who were trying to make unofficial continuation of series using this engine, but later in project they decided to use different (more modern looking) engine and in the end, these projects ended nowhere.

What made MM6 engine look so well - vivid colors, colorful palette and everything looked quite fantasy'ish (can't find the best word to describe), even though it is entirely sprite-based engine. Engine could use just some minor tweaks (like viewing distance, sprite's resolution) and could still stand well among modern games.

It would be great to have MM, which would play like MM6, but with more elaborated game systems, bigger world, more of everything. MM10 wasn't really a game in MM spirit mostly because it was small and restricting in just about everything (+ Ubisoft & Steam DRM).
I really liked Might and Magic X (blasphemy on these forums, I'm sure), but yeah, if you wanted a new game in the style of VI-IX you're sort of out of luck. Given that I can play Heroes III: Horn of the Abyss right now, I'll believe that at least one of the many Might and Magic fan projects will eventually come out at some point. That might be your best hope, because I can't think of many games emulating Might and Magic's style of exploration and combat (Wizardry 8 maybe? Although that's sort of its own thing).

Actually most people seem to like it, and since I like the MM games from the earlier era I'd like to play it. But I'm waiting for a version that doesn't require Uplay.

I think it would be great to have modern games in the mold of the early MM games AND the later MM games though.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts too.
As far as I know, there are no other games or series in the same style as MM6-8. Over the last 10 years, single-player/multi-character games with real-time combat have constantly been on the decline - as far as I know, only BioWare makes those type of games anymore (and EA owns BioWare, which means that there is almost no chance of any new BioWare game ever going on GOG).

I liked it, too...with the exception of the Wizard's promotion quest...which was utterly absurd...;)

Also, I really don't care for the "Heroes of M&M series," although I've tried to like it.

MMX seemed like a rush job. It wasn't horrible, but I think it was a wasted opportunity.
Ubisoft really needs to not make 2 Assassins Creed games every year and use some of that money to put out a decent Might and Magic RPG. They're sitting on a potential rival to Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls but they're not doing anything with it.

Most true! The perfect game, in my opinion, would be a remake of MM6 with modern graphics.
I was really disappointed with MMX.

Waltc, Have you tried Heroes II: the price of loyalty? By far the best one in my opinion. If you havent, give it a shot.

Also arbitrary water, Awesome prof pic, I think Sandro was my favorite guy in heroes II.

I have just recently played a little of the original elder Scrolls games and they remind me alot of might and magic. Daggerfall and Arena.

I haven't played Arena but I've played Daggerfall. A big difference there is that the Elder Scrolls games have only a single player character rather than a party, and of course they play out in real time. The open world is similar to MM, however, but in Daggerfall at least most of it is procedurally generated so locations don't feel as unique as they do in the MM games. Edler Scrolls focuses more on exploration and combat whereas the MM games tended to have more elaborate puzzles in its locations which I really liked; it game each place its own character.

I really should play Arena, it's the only Elder Scrolls game I've never played.
Oh I agree with you completely but at least the story feels detailed and the gameplay slightly difficult, unlike the newer elder scrolls games. Not saying I didn't like them though... Skyrim was amazing. On the note of might and magic, I was very dissapointed with mm8 because of the way you could hire new people at the inns making training and beefing your origanol characters pointless.
I personally like it grid-based. World of Xeen is my favorite still. I liked MMX a lot but it indeed just felt rushed. It was full of bugs. Only like 20% were corrected, then the developer said "We will move on to a new project, bye!" and that was it. If they just had invested some more time into perfecting it instead of leaving it as they did, it could have become my favorite of all time. It's really a shame.

I liked MMVI and MMVII too, but without being grid-based, combat just felt way too chaotic for me.
