Yes!

1. Extract the data from DARK.CC (http://games.playazlounge.net/#CCPacker)
2. Program a Xeen sprite editor (http://xeen.wikia.com/wiki/Sprite_File_Format)
3. Edit sprites CHARxx.FAC
4. Repack DARK.CC

Have fun!
Wow, thanks Cedric. I really like all your Xeen tools as well, kudos for creating them.

That's cute! It looks innocent and harmless! XD
I know it is an old topic, but where are the CHARxx.FAC files?

They are not located in folder with repacked DARK.CC, not in game directory... am I missing something?

PS: portraits are the ugliest, completely destroys my immersion.

Did you unpack Dark.cc using this:

Unfortunately, the Packer app doesn't do a great job rebuilding file names.
You will need to calculate the hash value of the file-name. (one tool that can do this is "Xeen CC File Information")

e.g.
CHAR01.FAC --> 54169
CHAR05.FAC --> 54233

Find the file d_[hash].ccx, copy it to your Xeen directory, and rename it.

e.g.
d_54265.ccx should be renamed CHAR07.FAC
Thank You for your reply Cedric.

I just found out about XeenPortraitStudio, and it is super easy to use.

I thought both Packer and Portrait Studio have to be used to get custom portraits. It is much simpler than I thought.

Here are some portraits I'm working on; they're modified NPCs from the game, including all the character conditions. +1 to Cedric's Xeen Portrait Studio.

I know this is an older topic, but I want to point out that the changed character portraits only seem to work on the floppy disk version and not the Full Speech version. I made a custom portrait, encoded it, put the file in the game directory, booted up the floppy disk version and it was there, but it's not there in the Full Speech version.

The CC files for the Talkie version are in the CD image (game1.inst & game1.gog). If you really want to try replacing the portraits for it, you may want to try using ScummVM instead of the original executable - the README has instructions at 3.15 for extracting the necessary data, including the CC files.

The full speech version looks for the portraits in the "WORLD" folder. See attached.

(update: my image isn't attaching....)

I tried to use the spriteconverter from the above mentioned site to extract faces. Unfortunately they look somehow "distorted"

The extractor works for the .mon and .att files but not for faces and walls/ground.

Can anyone help?
