So I've heard the rumors that with enough expressed interest ports will be released for Age of Wonders 3 on both Mac and Linux. I wonder how they gather this "interest" and where they go to find it.
I for one have been waiting patiently to throw my 40 bucks at Triumph. I have a Mac, and i do not plan to buy a pc or any kind of windows product just to play this game.
But I really would like to play this game one day.
Perhaps somebody will use Wine to port it before Triumph can "gather the expressed interest".

Age of Wonders III developers are considering Linux port if there is enough interest.
I am hoping that Triumph Studios will make a new operating system.

But the question is which game would it draw from the most? AoW1, AoW:SM or AoW3?

"Well, the only part of Linux that isn't portable is the kernel and drivers."

That's the most important part! What the fuck? God damnit.

We're actively working on it, but we cannot give any guarantees yet, sorry.

No it's not, they are both based on Unix. They may share architechtual similarities due to their origins but I can't image they share any code at this point.

So....uh....

...Is there gonna be a mac version for AoW3 or not??..
I've been playing age of wonders since i was a kid,. i still play age of wonders as an adult. It's the one game that's been able to completely hold my attention throughout a good 15-20 years. I also enjoyed shadow magic very much. It would be a damn shame if I never played AoW3 just because it 'never came out for mac'.. I don't plan on buying a pc again any time soon.

It's all Linux. Everything is Linux; Eniac is Linux.

Strictly speaking, they both comply with the POSIX standard for UNIX operating systems (though Linux isn't certified because it changes too quickly) and they both use OpenGL for accelerated graphics.

The rest is different (X11 vs. Quartz for windowing, ALSA vs. CoreAudio for audio, etc.) and that's why Icculus strongly recommends porting to SDL2 and then using that as the base for all your builds. Not only does it abstract away those differences, it has helpers for things like cross-platform XInput-style joystick support, easy creation of OpenGL contexts, looking up where saves and config data are supposed to be stored, etc.)
