My best guess is that now that the first game made it to Steam (though this has been a while), they regret giving it for 'free' to GOG purchasers of the second game.

I think the smarter move would have been to bundle them both in all other digital distributions and not the other way around (as they are doing here).

But then again, what do I know.
This is pretty hilarious actually.
FLAC soundtracks added :)
Judging from their homepage, the Collector's Edition of the Edna games has been released today(better performance, new achievements etc.). I don't know if our version has been enhanced accordingly?

As its their latest news item, it gets clear that STEAM still serves as their main distribution channel......

In an interview with a local adventure site from around New Years' Eve they clearly stated that each game could topple their entire finances if failing tremendously.
Blackguards may have been such a risk....

KajQrd: I must admit that when it comes to unbundling stuff on the shelf I wish they would do that to every bundle so I can choose which specific games to download and install. Like they did with Alone in the Dark. So that part of the deal I not only understand. I support it and hope it continues. As for the price change that does seem a bit odd.
Yeah, its nice that you can install each game individually. I like that.

Still, I paid $2.99 for both games January, 11th 2014 and don't see them getting ~ $35 for both of them on GOG.

Its also odd to add stuff to them on Steam and think gamers will pay as much as 'enhanced steam' versions for the games on GOG.

Its their games, but nearly doubling the price might (pro'lly will) hurt sales.
Is everything other than the soundtracks the same in the bonus content across both versions (avatars, etc.)?

Yes :)
I had to come here to check that I hadn't missed something.

Nope, it's just as ridiculous a decision as I thought.

Could you link that? I might be blind, but I failed to find any mention from their German or English site about the new version being released.

Just at the top of the main page their latest products are listed. There it says:"Die Sammler Edition ist da!" Just scroll around till you get Edna.

Sure it does say that: "Die Sammler-Edition ist da: Bessere Perfomance, neue Achievements, Entwickler-Kommentar und vieles mehr!" But it doesn't say that it is published yesterday. Many of the games on the list aren't that recent and maybe The Breakout is on the list because Steam started to sell it late last year. DVD-version of the Collector's Edition was published long time ago and GOG version is the same with achievements and commentary, which weren't present in the original German version. There also doesn't seem to be any indication that anything was updated on Steam recently.

The "Sammler Edition" was released in October 2011. Check the official Daedalic website, page 23 in the archive :-P
Then it appears I was misinformed. I only rarely visit their homepage and assumed their advertisment banner to be recent.

Sorry!
Daedalic proves again and again that they all are a bunch of sons of *******

While they have made some bad calls, they're not all bad. Recently they gave The Whispered World: Special Edition for free to those who already own the original version (although only after they got bad PR for their plan to sell it instead of giving it as a free upgrade) and they included German language version to GOG version of Goodbye Deponia.

This decision was controversial, but I think it's because they started selling the games separately in other on-line stores. I don't know what kind of deals they have with the on-line stores, but I assume there was some sort of pressure to start selling the games with same price on GOG as they are selling those on Steam.

I have to say that I don't like their money grabbing policies, like giving German versions of the games to GOG later in order to sell their games to German customers with higher price and the fact that they sell extras in Steam as DLC, which is why they don't give extras to GOG (for now GOG has refused to sell extras to it's customers).

However if I understand correctly they are struggling financially and try to make as much money as possible to prevent going down. I'm not certain however if the strategy is a good one, because it seems to anger a lot of GOGers. Steam users probably don't care that stuff however and that's where they apparently sell most of their games.
