I get black bars on the sides when playing. Is that normal? Also, the new exe doesn't seem to like overlays, for Fraps at least (the other exe files, safe mode and regular do allow Fraps support however).
I have dowloaded the Windows Installer (setup_dungeon_keeper2_2.0.0.32.exe) and Hardware Acceleration Fix (patch_gogdungeonkeeper2_1.0.1.30.exe).

After the installation of the game, I've ran Acceleration Fix installer, which said:

Update 1.0.1.30 for Dungeon Keeper 2
! This update is incompatible with installed version.

When I run the game, it is obviously not accelerated. Graphic options say Direct 3D - fake and ingame, no acceleration is applied. Could you advice me how to install the Fix?
Hi there,

i have the the same problem.
I can'T install die hardware fix separetely from the game and DKII is just running in Software mode with 640x480 as resolution )it changes nothing when i change the resolution in game).

Funnily, when i use the normal DKII.exe (not the DX edition) and run it with Win XP compatibility, then the game start with 3D acceleration (can see running Fraps) but it just show a black screen.
Hi guys,

Could those of you who are having any sort of issues with the Hardware Acceleration Fix please write to Support? Please make sure to attach your DxDiag to go along with your email. Thanks :D
Just bought Dungeon Keeper 2 yesterday and came to install the update but Im also getting the error about it being not compatible with installed version. Its also locked at 640x480 resolution and the Direct 3D option in game is greyed out and says "fake".
It sounds like the new installer comes with the patch included, so there's no need to install it separately. The direct3d box should be labelled 'fake device' and shouldn't be changeable. That's by design, (albeit a bit of a stupid one... My fault. :/) and means that the patch is working. (The 'hardware acceleration' box should also be ticked, as a double check.) Changing resolution will have no effect on the main menu, which is always 640x480. It should have an effect in game though.

Edit: And yes, I see that with the patch installed fraps can't display its fps counter... No idea why that's the case.

that makes sense, I did want to add that I've had no crashes or graphical problems with the game, so good job with the fix :D
Same problem here. Installed DK2 but the patch says "incompatible bla bla.." like above. Another thing, when I entered graphic options it was set at 800x600 and changing it to 1024x768 didnt change anything at all. Tried to exit and start the game again, but there was no difference.

What I assume is going on..

1) The patch is already applied in the DK2 installer as mentioned above as well.
2) The 800x600 resolution is fixed, OR the 1024x768 is fixed from the start and the informed 800x600 resolution mentioned in options is thus wrong.

- Deleted my question about changing resolution, UTFS ;-) -

Great work on making this game working this smooth on Windows 7!
My compliments!

Choyi1983: I have this exact same problem, first time I played when patch came out it worked fine, but now I always get the slow mouse cursor bugg (makes the game unplayable).

Tried both theese solutions without any success.
This bugg only happens during missions/skirmish and is not present while in the main menu.

ezelkow1: I also have this same issue, only in game not in menus

Send a message to the support team at GOG. Include your DXdiag.
Patch version 1.1.1.30 tells me that its incompatible with installed version. The setup seems to be version 2.0.0.32.

Current installer has the patch already included - the patch remains for download for those who have the old version and want to just patch that...
Thanks, thats what I thought.
