Latest version:

Mac OS X - 1.2 (build 512)
Windows - 3.6.0

Both Downloaders now have the option of sending Error Reports directly to us (this can be found in app under Settings).

Retrofraction: I had the .9 version of the down loader and it was asking for my credentials repeatably

So I uninstalled ALL of the files and deleted ALL of the folders and installed the new 3.0 build

Same deal and it sucks cause I really wanted to back up my copy of the Witcher before I erased my HD

I am running windows 7 on a i3 with HT and 4GB ram
The bug you're experiencing now is on the server end, not the downloader. We're investigating it right now. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience - we'll keep you updated in this thread regarding the problem.

UPDATE: We've applied a hot fix for the issue - login and download should be working fine now. Once again, we're very sorry for the problems - definitely there is still a lot to improve on here :).

PS: By the way, I'd like to ask all of you to manually update to version 3.0.51b / 3.1.2b (please see the pinned post on the top of the page) - you won't get this update via auto-update system!

Since my downloader auto-updated AFTER I had already read this post, I assume I got 3.1.2b, but there's no clear way for me to check, as far as I can tell.

A good idea is to include something like a build number for all versions so you can always refer to something, even if that number is almost never useful externally.

(an md5sum of a changed file will do in a pinch)
-------
Buh, worse:

- Closing the downloader window hides it in the task tray, instead of closing the app like it should. If users want it in the task tray, they can click a minimize button.
- The installer that clearly realizes it's an upgrade cannot handle the case that the old version is currently running.

Recommend you change at least one of these two things.

Hello - the 3.0.51b / 3.1.2b is availably only via manual update by downloading the installer - you won't get it via in-app auto-update system.
I manually updated the Downloader and now it's working again. Good job, dev guys. I hope you can get back to weekend vacationing now :D

The new downloader is working again thanks(I am using the beta one), but it still have a strange bug/behaviors that the old one already had :

It's not possible to download with it the "Universal Update" from Alan Wake, American Nightmare or Tomb Raider, I can download the game or the bonus just fine but if I try to download the update nothing happen.

If I disable the downloader and download the update using the browser everything works fine though.

Indeed it seems there is a bug that prevents downloading game patches only in the beta version of the Downloader (it works fine in stable). If you'd prefer to continue using the beta version, as a temporary workaround you can either:
a) go to http://gog.com/account/beta and turn the switch to off. Afterwards you can still use Downloader beta, but you will lose remote queue functionality;
OR
b) use browser to download patches, as you've mentioned

PS: It seems the bug is somewhere on the My Account page and not in the Downloader itself, so I expect that it will be fixed very soon with the next incremental website build

The is a big flaw with the beta (and most certainly with the stable version aswell):

If you don't enter your login data you cannot close the GOG Downloader by any normal means! Killing the process seems to be the only possible option.

Pretty annoying...

You can close the app at that point also by right clicking on GOG.com Downloader tray icon, nevertheless there should be an easier option to do it - I'll forward this to Fallen_Zen so he can add it to the roadmap for one of the future updates :)

Argh, totally forgot about the tray icon. But yeah, another way to close the downloader would be appreciated! Thanks for the fast reply.

The problem persists.

Hello all,

I recently tried to download Splinter Cell, and after clicking on the download link, the downloader launched but I received the "error, retrying..." message in the bottom right corner of the downloader. After waiting a few minutes, I tried closing and restarting the application, but no luck. After a few failed attempts, I decided to uninstall and reinstall the downloader, and it seems I may have made things even worse.

After uninstalling the downloader, my computer gave me the message "Not all of the components (or something) have been removed, these can be manually removed later," and after I tried to reinstall the downloader, I received this error:

An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file: DeleteFile failed; code 5. Access is denied.
Click retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation.

I've seen that others are having the similar "error, retrying..." problem, but I haven't seen anyone else with the reinstall problem that I'm having, which frightens me. If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it!

I've tried ignoring it, and the application won't open. Retrying brings up the same error message.

Hello,

First of all what version were you using? What kind OS, how did you try to uninstall the Downloader? It has its own uninstaller.

Please download the latest build: http://www.gog.com/downloader and try installing, it should close and overwrite the existing instance of the Downloader if running.

There was some server side problems during the weekend, that's from where you were getting the "error, retrying..." message. Downloader couldn't log you in.

Let me know if that helped.
So I'm downloading The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition on the GOG downloader and at some point the download pauses and I can't even resume it because the resume button is blacked out. It's really annoying because when i go to sleep I keep my pc running so it can still download the game and wake up knowing that the DL paused is just annoying. Any Solutions?

Which version of the Downloader you are using? Please download the latest build from http://www.gog.com/downloader and install it. Also please post the contents of you logger file, preffered by pasting it to http://www.pastebin.com and posting a link here.

The log file can be found at C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\GOG.com if you're on Win Vista/7.
