still didn't work. crashes every time
SAME. TA Crash
I just bought TA for my MacBook Pro tonight and the game has all messed up graphics and I can't play as it immediately crashes. Everything is fully updated and using the latest versions.

When I first loaded it up WINE asked permission to download a file, so I said yes. Not sure what file but it said it could not work without it.

Anyhow, an immediate fix would be good. Thanks!
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue? I've been emailing with gog support but they don't seem to know how to fix it. I went into Wineskin.app->Set Screen Options->Clicked Override and set the Virtual Desktop to the same as my computer resolution (1280x800). This did not help. I also went into Wineskin Advanced->Tools->Winetricks->Settings->and set ddr=gdi "Set DirectDrawRenderer to gdi" and then clicked "run". This helped with the flicking/distortion on the TA loading screen but I was still unable to play a skirmish as it crashed with the following crash log:

I am going to try using ddr=opengl and see if that helps, but I am not terribly optimistic.

Opengl definitely didn't help. I made progress with ddr=gdi, but the same still crashes when I try to play a skirmish or campaign. Any ideas?

I've been emailing with GOG support about this but they say they "cannot recreate the problem". I send them a link to this thread and I hope they will see that their latest update broke the game. If everyone else emails them about this problem they may finally be able to fix it. This is a link for contacting them: gog.com/support/contact
Hey guys, was having the same problem, Then I went into the games options and then restored to defaults in the interface and visuals sections and it runs now for me. Although I do have small glitches, it doesn't make the game unplayable. Hopefully this helps you guys.

What did you specifically click on in order to restore the defaults? I can't quickly find such an option.
I have also not got this to work on my macair/mavericks. It did prompt me to download a gecko package which then failed because the package was corrupted. I went and found and installed macindows and I have deleted and reinstalled TA a number of times but no luck. I am not familiar with Wine or gecko but I would have thought the TA .dmg would just install and run as supposed to.

Ok I just looked into the game to try to paint a better picture for you. Simply start up, go into single or multiplayer, imagine both work fine. Then go into options. Then go to the bottom right hand corner, there will be a button that is marked restored defaults. and hopefully that will do it for you.

I don't know if this will be of help to anybody else, but I just got this email from GOG, and it fixed it for me.

"Hello

Please launch the game, go to Options > Visuals and set the Screen size to match your desktop resolution.

Please go to Applications, right click Total Annihilation App and select Show Package Contents > Wineskin.app go to Set Screen Options and change the resolution to 640x480, if it is not already set to that value, now go to Advanced > Tools > Winetrics > settings and enable ddr=gdi and click Run."

This may be a separate issue to the ones other people are having, but as it's a graphical issue, it may be of some assistance to somebody!

I'm a complete Wine novice, so if this doesn't help anybody, I apologise...

Ok, I just managed to get it working on Mavericks (10.9.2) at 1920x1080. I make no promises that this will fix everyone’s issues, I make no promises that it’s the best way to do things, and I definitely won’t promise to help troubleshoot. I merely offer this as a set of steps that worked for me.

1) INSTALLING: Download the Mac version available here on GOG (it’s 1.1.0.21, as of today). Mount the disk image and move the app onto your hard disk.

2) INITIAL RUN: Launch the game while holding down the Option key. A Wineskin window should appear.

3) SCREEN OPTIONS: Click "Set Screen Options" on the Wineskin window. In the Screen Options window that appears, do the following:
-- Toggle it from “Automatic” to “Override”
-- Toggle it from “Normal windows” to “Virtual Desktop” and set it to 640x480
-- Click “Done”

4) ADVANCED OPTIONS: Click “Advanced” on the Wineskin window, then do the following:
-- Click "Tools" at the top
-- Click "Winetricks" (underneath "Utilities" in the middle column)
-- Expand the "settings" section
-- Check "ddr=gdi", click the "Run" button, then click “Run” in the dialog window that pops up
-- Wait for it to finish (it will say “Winetricks Commands Finished!!”), then click "Close"
-- Close the “Wineskin Advanced” window

5) IN-GAME OPTIONS: Launch the game normally. My screen blacks out for a few seconds as it changes resolution, but then comes back sometime after the intro Cavedog logo video starts. Once in the game, do the following:
-- Click “Single”
-- Click “Options”
-- Click “Visuals”
-- Set “Screen Size” to your desired resolution (other than 640x480)
-- Click “OK”, then click it again

After that, I’m able to play the game. There may be other issues I haven’t encountered yet, but I was just able to play a complete skirmish match against the AI, so it at least works that well. YMMV.

Excellent, Aichonic!
I did all your steps on MAC OS 10.7.5 and it also solved all my problems!

Thank you!
Aichonic way works but make sure on 5) IN-GAME OPTIONS you set the resolution to anything but 640x480. Mine crashes every time I load a game or skirmish when its set to 640x480. 800x600 seems to work the best for me.

Whoo-Hoo got my TA back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
